About VanRidge Garden Club

Organized in 1976 and federated in 1977, VanRidge Garden Club is a member of Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs and member of Lewis and Clark District Garden Clubs.

Meetings

Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, September through June. Meetings begin at 10:00 a.m. and include a program which begins approximately 11:00 after the business meeting. After the program an auction of donated garden-related items is held. The meeting is concluded with a potluck lunch and general socializing.

Special Events

VanRidge Garden Club holds a plant sale each spring. Plants, including vegetables, flowers, trees, and berries, are grown by garden club members with proceeds used for various civic projects including a scholarship at Clark College.

Often, the club goes on field trips to such places as various nurseries, Fort Vancouver Heritage Gardens, and Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden.

Membership to VanRidge Garden Club is open to all. Visitors are welcome.

VanRidge Garden Club Civic Projects

Scholarship to Clark College

Club sponsors a $300 scholarship to help an individual with education in areas of gardening interests through 4-H, district or state garden clubs.

Clark County Fair

Club provides public service with members volunteering for annual District Flower Show duties at the Clark County Fair.

Blue Star Memorial

One-time donation of funds towards the Blue Star Memorial Marker located at the Veterans Hospital, Vancouver, Washington.

Gee Creek Rest Stop

Club provides funds for refreshments for travelers, I-5 Freeway, Ridgefield, Washington

Master Gardeners

Club members who are have completed the Master Gardeners program continue to contribute to the community and to the club.

Thanksgiving Food Basket

Club purchases meat and members donate items for basket for needy families of Pleasant View Church, location of club meetings.

Vancouver Veteran’s Hospital

Starting in 2001, the club provides flowers and volunteers make arrangements for the dining hall of the Veteran’s Hospital in Vancouver, Washington, each February and August. This activity provides passive therapy for the veterans in residence.

Share House, Vancouver

Members donate clothes for women and children, school supplies, personal items on a monthly basis; also provide Easter and Halloween candy, Christmas gifts for children.

Help is needed throughout the year. Please bring donations to all meetings, and those will be taken to Share House. Items needed include:
  • Clothes, especially for children of all ages, including coats and boots, and undergarments in good condition.
  • School supplies, Kleenex
  • Personal items such as tooth brushes, dental floss, cologne, hair brushes, combs, feminine items, such as new makeup, undergarments in good condition.
